Capacity may be raised for Sunday’s game at O’Donnell Park

Colm Keys has a piece in today’s Irish Independent (here) where he reveals that the capacity of O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny, where Donegal host Mayo in the National League on Sunday, is currently being assessed. The hope is that, in light of the enormous demand for tickets to attend this top of the table Division One fixture, capacity at the venue could be lifted to around 10,000 for Sunday.

Incidentally, this piece in the Donegal Daily (here) offers a glimmer of hope about more tickets being released for general sale, regardless of whether or not the capacity will be upped for Sunday’s game.

Referencing a Donegal GAA statement on social media, it’s said in that piece (which, admittedly, is from four days ago) that sales on Ticketmaster have only been closed “temporarily” while season ticket holders take up their reserved allocation. Depending on demand there, the hope is that a limited number of tickets might go on general sale at some point this week. To be honest, I wouldn’t be holding my breath there.

One of our Patreon club members will be in luck, of course, as we have two free tickets to the game to give away, courtesy of podcast partners EBS. Club members were notified yesterday about how to enter the competition for these tickets and we’ll be announcing the winner on Friday night.

By the way, has a League match involving Mayo ever been a sell-out before now? I can’t think of another example and I doubt there is one. A League game in the middle of February, which is being shown live on TV, selling out days in advance? Truly, we’re all stone mad.

No Willie Joe, can't think of any match sold out in the league especially in February. Its great to see!
This game will be a good learning experience and an interesting challenge for us and perplexed as how both managers will approach this one.

2 football mad counties, both motoring along nicely playing good to watch football in a ground which holds 7000...was always going to be a sellout...

Well, the feel-good factor is back and that's the proof of it.
Mad Ted, mad.

I think the sell-out in this game is more down to the very low capacity than anything else!
We had 15000 in castlebar for the Dublin game.
Even last year, this would have been a sellout with that capacity - admittedly there was more demand last year from the hills of donegal!

The kingdom are the team to beat this year Armagh or Donegal for Ulster Galway for Connaught and Meath for Leinster and doctor Maguire for the bridge

Congrats to UL and the Mayo lads who played their part. Great for those boys to collect an AI medal in a final in Croke Park, especially when there's a tight finish. It can only do their confidence the world of good. Keeper was motm and it emphasises the role of a keeper who can stop shots and get kickouts away with accuracy. A good keeper in the new game is probably more valuable than a marquee forward. Interestingly, there was no 2 pointer tonight.
