The GAA confirmed this morning that Sunday’s All-Ireland Intermediate club football final between Crossmolina and Ballinderry has been postponed. This is due to a tragic event that occurred yesterday, which profoundly impacts the Crossmolina community.
The final will be rescheduled in due course but, at a time like this, it’s a reminder that it’s only a game. Deepest condolences to all impacted by this awful tragedy for their terrible loss.

It's very hard to find any words at a time like this and I think it's all anyone in these parts is thinking of today. It's beyond tragic. Crossmolina is a brilliant community and will wrap its arms around everyone involved, and while it might be only a game, the wider GAA community will feel it too and will do the same. Deepest condolences to everyone affected, and thoughts too with those incredible people who are assisting on the ground right now.

It really is just a game, isn't it?
We sometimes get caught up in it all to such a massive extent that we let it cloud our judgement and even reduce it to petty insults and arguments. I know I have felt so enraged by Mayo games in the past and some of the comments on here that I've really had to check myself.
And then something like this happens and it's a massive reality check. In the grand scheme of things, sport is a distraction. It can be a great one and provides us with so much joy but nothing is more important than friends and family. Those involved and the entire community are hurting something awful right now. I hope they find the strength to muddle through it. May God bless them all.

My thoughts and prayers are with both families affected and their friends and indeed all the community in Crossmolina and Carrick on Shannon. Sometimes we all go through dark days and bad times its not always sunshine and loliipops but there is always help out there and there are amazing people within our own county and community who are always available to listen and assist and help. All one has to do is be brave take the first step and reach out. Im aiming this post at us men who are notorious for bottling things up remember a problem shared is a problem halved and its not a sign of weakness to ask for help its a sign of strength.
